Judge value against the route, not the calendar
With dynamic pricing, the same seat can cost very different amounts. A price well below the route's recent average is a good redemption; a price above it is usually worth waiting on if your dates allow.
Recover miles after booking
If the same award gets cheaper, rebooking can return the difference. In TopTier's example, a trip booked at 170,000 miles dropped to 110,000, putting 60,000 miles back.
